Travel Health Insurance

Do I have Travel Insurance?

No one wants to be away from home and have a medical emergency. Yet emergencies can happen anywhere. You can have peace of mind knowing that your benefit plan covers 100% of the cost of medical emergencies (in excess of your Provincial Health Insurance Plan) Link to an FAQ while you or your dependents are traveling outside of Canada (or outside your home province within Canada) for up to 180 days per trip.

Your Health plan includes Emergency Travel Coverage and Assistance when an insured person requires immediate medical attention while travelling outside his province of residence due or related to:

  • a sudden, unexpected injury which occurs or a new medical condition which begins while travelling;
    or
  • a previously identified medical condition that was “stable” Link to an FAQ, but not diagnosed as terminal or prescribed for palliative care, at the time of departure from his province of residence.

You do not have coverage if you are traveling to a politically unstable area. Manulife offers coverage to all countries except those that are listed under “Travel Advisories” by the Canadian Government. For current travel advisories visit www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pays/menu-eng.asp

Do I Have Trip Cancellation Insurance?

No.

What Should I do in a Medical Emergency?

You should carry your Manulife Member Card with you when you travel. If you are traveling outside Canada or the United States, print this wallet size reference card and carry it with your Manulife Member Card. When an emergency does occur, contact Manulife’s World Travel Assistance Program as soon as possible. Expenses in excess of $200 will be paid for directly by Allianz Global Assistance, provided you contact them before any expenses are incurred. If Allianz Global Assistance is not contacted, or if expenses are $200 or less, you are responsible for payment and may submit a claim for reimbursement using the Health Claim Form.

Note: The maximum lifetime benefit for expenses incurred outside of Canada is $1 million for each covered person. This maximum includes hospitalization and services of a physician.
